Cello
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 | Drawings, Felix | No Comments
I didn’t do as much drawing today. The three little bits I’ve got are the assembly of a poster for a friend’s concert. She didn’t want to pay a lot for printing, so the task was to have only one ink (black) on a colored paper (blue).
She was looking for a rough, informal and almost gestural type of communication for this poster. I prefer my work a bit rough around the edges anyhow— it keeps me from spending hours obsessing over whether all the lines are straight, symmetrical and “just so!”

A rough draft of a magazine ad for my media sales course. The details are inconsequential. <g>
Taken with iPhone so not that crazy quality. (Bottom ad copy trimmed)

Self Portrait

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain’s first exercise involves making a self portrait as one it’s record-keeping exercises, to gauge improvement by the end of the book. I’ve done this twice before for this particular book, but that was over a year ago, so it definitely justified trying again. I also attempted to do some shading here, because it’s definitely a weak point. I’m relatively pleased with how it came out, some proportion errors aside. I’ll need to scan this, because the camera isn’t doing a good job with the shading. No scanner at the moment.

Life Drawing

Well okay, sort of. The shoe’s a life drawing, the other one is only if you define life drawing very loosely. Our narrow friend is a combined and distorted version of various people in the room with me. The shoe is just that — a shoe (mine, specifically).

Laundromatters

Today was packed. I fit in a bit of quick figure work while doing my laundry around the block. Most people moved too quickly for me to get anything meaningful. Here were the two subjects who stayed still for me the longest. I definitely need to work on proportion.

Repairing the Nimabot

This drawing began as simple shapes and, using cheap tracing paper, was refined 5 times to come out with the final product shown here. This is the third part of a three part series for my printmaking course. This will be etched into a copper plate, bathed in acid, and printed several times.

Monday’s Drawings
Monday, October 13th, 2008 | Abstract, Drawings, Felix | No Comments
Hi everyone. Steve told me about this project, and through (not) a great deal of persuasion, he said he’d let me in on the fun. Great!
Two drawings for everyone today. One’s a feather made in Adobe Illustrator, and the other’s an abstract drawing from my notebook. About 1.5 hours/each. I’ll get faster.

Three’s a crowd

Just a few more blooks, from page 17. Looks like I’ll be doing a bunch of spheres and such next. I’m also re-reading the first chapters of “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards. I’ll get to some work on that shortly. And I’ll be catching up to Jimmy soon.

Fun with a pencil, part 1
Saturday, October 11th, 2008 | Drawings, SteveMack | No Comments
I decided a little while to try my hand at Andrew Loomis’ version of drawing instruction, with his “Fun with a pencil” book. Hey, if it’s not fun, why do it, right? I’m just finished page 16, and the little head guys (He calls them “blooks”) are quite a bit of fun to work on. It’s taking me about ten minutes a head, which seems kind of sad. He’s got a lot of pages of blooks though, so I think I’ll be a bit faster by the end of it. 🙂
