Photocopy Portraits

Copied from a book on studying facial expression. Expect a lot more of this sort of thing.

Balance

I enjoy playing with the balance of a figure.

Anatomy Studies

They are what they are.

I have a tendency to not get the length quite right on the paper, so I miss the feet. Oops.

Justifications

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 | Drawings, SteveMack | No Comments

I’m not going to bother justifying any absence that may or may not have occurred. I am only going to post!

This here was a little doodle meant to remind me of a place I passed by on my way to my Uncle & Aunts country home, around Thanksgiving. I don’t know how long it took me, but I don’t imagine it was more than a few minutes. I just wanted to make sure I remembered the scene, because it gave me a story idea.

Statement of obviousness

Just letting people know that I’m still alive, but my lack of internet at home severely  hampers my ability to do any sort of posting. Should be back online in a week or so, and if not, when I go home for the holidays. The good news also is that I’m much closer to employment than I was a month ago. Huzzah.

Movie-ing

Just another in the series.

I’ll be up in Albany for Thanksgiving, and apparently the place I’m moving to has no internet, so my posting may be sporadic. On the bright side, I’ll probably have a ridiculous amount of time to draw with no distraction. Heh.

On crises and shadow

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 | Drawings, SteveMack | 1 Comment

Sorry for the lapse. I got hit by some financial and housing crises that, together, completely obliterated my ability to concentrate on anything that wasn’t directly contributing to my health and sanity. This might be a regular thing. But Felix does a good job hassling me, so we’ll see what happens. I expect to resume being a regular poster once I’ve moved into a new place. : /

Couple more movie portraits. These characters are in some heavy shadow, so I decided to see what I could convey without shading every single shade of grey in between light and shadow. Interested to know what you think. Was hard to get a lot of detail, because they are completely surrounded in darkness, so their silhouette was difficult to grasp, let alone draw.

Movie portraits

Taking some portraits from movies. I don’t expect any of them to be identified, but it was enjoyable. Drawing from films is nice, because you have very cinematic angles to choose from.

3D, MIA, Yadayada.

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | 3D, SteveMack | 4 Comments

I’ve been MIA, but not without productivity. I spent about 15-20 hours on this, I think, although I’m not counting any of that time towards my drawing counter, despite some of those hours being spent painting textures and so forth. Far from perfect, but I’m fairly happy with my progress on the texturing side of things, and it’s as far as I plan to take it. I’m only posting the image so that it is well known that I am not dead. We now return to your regularly scheduled drawing-blogging. (Tomorrow.)

Stained Glass WIP

Thursday, November 6th, 2008 | Drawings, SteveMack | 1 Comment

A friend of mine recently fulfilled a promise to draw me a sketch for one of my 3D scenes, that would eventually be a stained glass window texture. They did the sketch for me, and I started transforming it into stained glass. Something I’ve never really done before, so the process is a bit labor intensive as I discover new ways of Photoshopping.

Felix has been hounding me to put anything up, too.

I’m posting the original first, ©2008 Ying Xu, used with permission. The second is a half-res of my work so far.
