I’m Not Dead

Sunday, November 30th, 2008 | Abstract, Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments

I’ve just been sleeping. And then there was Thanksgiving, and then the day-after-Thanksgiving, and my cousin was in town, and well. Here I am now. Sorry about that lapse. I don’t have a lot for you, given the incredible span of time that has gone past since you last heard from me, but I’ve got tidbits from a few projects. Here you go, then!

Movie-ing

Just another in the series.

I’ll be up in Albany for Thanksgiving, and apparently the place I’m moving to has no internet, so my posting may be sporadic. On the bright side, I’ll probably have a ridiculous amount of time to draw with no distraction. Heh.

Tentapus

I was going for something with multiple arms and ended up with the Flying Spaghetti Monster’s cousin, Bert.

Drabstraction

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 | Drawings, Jimsan | 3 Comments

This one started out as an abstraction, inspired by Felix, and turned out to be a… skeletal sea dragon? I really enjoyed this exercise. I’m particularly happy with the top portion of the beast. I’ll probably revisit the tail soon. Kinda looks tattooish.

On crises and shadow

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 | Drawings, SteveMack | 1 Comment

Sorry for the lapse. I got hit by some financial and housing crises that, together, completely obliterated my ability to concentrate on anything that wasn’t directly contributing to my health and sanity. This might be a regular thing. But Felix does a good job hassling me, so we’ll see what happens. I expect to resume being a regular poster once I’ve moved into a new place. : /

Couple more movie portraits. These characters are in some heavy shadow, so I decided to see what I could convey without shading every single shade of grey in between light and shadow. Interested to know what you think. Was hard to get a lot of detail, because they are completely surrounded in darkness, so their silhouette was difficult to grasp, let alone draw.

Tuesday’s People

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | Drawings, Felix | No Comments

I’m the ghost in the blog, making it say, “Boo!” even when nobody else is around. These drawings are going to eventually be vectorized for a big project I’m working on, where they’ll be part of a much larger whole. Look for them in the future: same blog place, different blog time!

The Drop – hardground

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | Drawings, Jimsan | No Comments

Starting to get into crunch-time as I near the end of the term. Here’s an image of my copper plate after I etched into the hardground and before I bathed it in acid. When my time isn’t consumed by exam studies and other other-worldy pursuits I’ll be able to get back to my beloved sketching.

Gallimaufry & Et Cetera

Monday, November 17th, 2008 | Abstract, Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | 2 Comments

I guess we all took the weekend off. That’s all right, I s’pose, but I don’t have anything big to show for it. Let’s keep it pulsing — here are a few things I drew in the interim.

More!

Thursday, November 13th, 2008 | Abstract, Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments

I’ve been having a lot of fun with color and various brushy effects in Photoshop, so you’ll probably see a bit more of that for a little while. But I haven’t abandoned what passes for my classic style, either.

Closure

Preparing lines for tomorrow’s tracing and etching. Added a bit of detail here and there, but most detail will be added using dry-point after the acid bath. I’m not entirely happy with how this piece turned out, but I did discover a few things. I’m going to try something similar, with the same theme, later on.
